Davenport Evans is proud to announce that Cheryle Gering, a partner in the firm’s Commercial Litigation practice, was recently appointed as a circuit court judge in the 1st Judicial Circuit in South Dakota. Gov. Dennis Daugaard appointed Cheryle to fill the vacancy created by the June 8, 2011 retirement of Judge Arthur Rusch. Cheryle received her undergraduate degree in political science and criminal justice studies in 1988 from the University of South Dakota. She then received her law degree from the University of Iowa in 1991, graduating with high distinction. Cheryle has been with Davenport Evans since 1991 and has successfully litigated a multitude of complex commercial cases over the years. While Cheryle will be missed by her colleagues at Davenport Evans as well as her many clients, her quick wit, even demeanor, and passion for the law will serve the judiciary and the citizens of South Dakota well. The appointment is a testament to Cheryle’s outstanding career as a litigator in both the state and federal court systems. Cheryle Gering will be sworn in as a circuit court judge on or about July 1, 2011.
