Jean Bender Addresses Two Groups on Workplace Issues

Davenport, Evans, Hurwitz & Smith attorney Jean Bender recently spoke at two educational events for business owners and human resource professionals.

Bender, a member of the firm’s Employee Benefits and Labor and Employment Law practice groups, was a featured speaker at the monthly chapter meeting of the Northeast South Dakota Affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management in Watertown, SD. She addressed the legal issues related to drug testing in the workplace.

She also recently presented a webinar for employers on social media for Howalt+McDowell Insurance’s Howalt University. Her presentation called “Social Media 2.0: Texting and Tweeting and Friending, Oh My!” discussed recent developments regarding the legal implications and impact of social networking on the workplace.

Bender’s practice focuses on employee benefits issues. She regularly counsels clients on issues involving the Fair Labor Standards Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, and Americans with Disabilities Act, plus discrimination and harassment law. Her experience also includes reviewing and drafting employee handbooks and advising clients on compliance issues with benefits plans.
